Sliding headstock lathes
The sliding headstock lathe, also known as a Swiss-type automatic lathe, is a high-productivity machine tool ideal for manufacturing small precision metal components (up to Ø32 mm) in medium to large batch production.
During operation, the bar stock passes through a guide bush, while the material is rotated and advanced by the sliding headstock. This machine configuration keeps the workpiece supported close to the machining zone, ensuring:
- High precision, even on long, slender components
- Process stability, even in complex machining operations
- Excellent surface finish quality
- Reduced vibration during machining

When to choose a sliding headstock lathe
A sliding headstock lathe is the ideal solution when the component requires:
- Complex multi-axis geometries
- Tight tolerances and high repeatability
- Complete machining in a single setup
- Series production with continuous output
